Motor Racing Magazine Covers

More reminders of the decline of magazine cover design.

Automotive historians linked the recession of women’s skirt lengths to improvements in cars such as the electric starter, synchronized gears, and doors. Cars emancipated women like nothing else in the early 1900s. Henry Ford spoke out against women driving, as it undermined the moral fiber of the country (in his opinion). If he had spied the Motor Racing cover from Dec ’68 he would have shouted “See! I told ya!”
Me? I’m thinking: “We need more artful covers like that!”

Thanks for the link to “The Decline of Western Magazine Covers.” It’s a sad commentary that with all the advancements in photography the best they can muster is boring “celebrity” shots.
