No, not at all.
All I could think about was the immense collection of value all sitting on one ferryboat.
Capt. Ned – I had the same thought. Those cars were loading up and my mind kept repeating, “Dont sink. Don’t sink. Don’t sink.”
I’ve had the opportunity to learn a great deal about these exquisite, rare and beautiful cars over the past year as my client Borrani Americas/Motion Products, Inc. has brought several of these cars to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the Cavallino Classic and other events on behalf of their customers…the owners of the cars. They are truly magnificent rolling works of art and America has been blessed to see so many gathered together for what will probably be the last time….ever. It’s near impossible to get that many owners to coordinate to transport their cars to the same place at the very same time from around the globe and across the USA. The Internet and modern technology might frustrate people at times, but it also serves a beautiful purpose…to preserve experiences like these…forever. Those of us who were fortunate enough to see these cars together in Monterey last year or in Florida this year will never truly be able to explain it to others, but thanks to video and websites like TheChicane.com, we can share with friends and family…and future generations can enjoy what we were privy to first hand. Although the video rambled a bit, overall it gave a great backstory to some of the cars seen at this year’s event. The GTO collection was a real treat for the eyes! Many thanks to the videographer for posting this!
There’s always a surprise at Amelia, and mine this year was the Cyclops II (1957). Those who read Road & Track back in the day remember this harbinger of today’s EV movement. Many thought it was silly back then, but not so any more.
I was one of the 23,000 that attended 2012, and I expect to be there for 2013 as well!
Goodwood is even better – ’cause the cars are racing, 10 GTOs at the same time on the same track incl. Breadvan, Cobras etc. – beats any concours static display by far.
Whenever you have the chance: the Revival is the event to go.
There truly is nothing quite like watching a beautiful vintage car in motion on the track and Goodwood is on my bucket list JJ, but for those of us who can’t imagine making it out of the states until we’ve amassed our savings and hit retirement, Amelia offered a wonderful experience.
