I’m not the only one who doesn’t tire of Porsche 550 Spyder footage, am I?
This must be a fairly contemporary production as it features Porsche’s current voice-over talent, who I’ve always found to be a bit overly dramatic. But who am I to complain when the film footage is this good? Seeing the clay models of the 550 and the technicians crafting the 4-cam engine is a treat.

terrific film. I do wish they would follow a proper chronology both with the commentary and the film as the discussion of the earliest cars 1953-4 is illustrated by film of later ones–’55/6! We only see the early ones competing in the Carrera footage at the end; since the twin cam motors were not ready, the early cars were fitted with push rod engines; John von Neumann had one of these (his red one) which was previously one of the Fletcher sponsored cars seen here. His first twin cam car was wrecked and March Field in ’54, and there wasn’t another four cammer here for another six months. The early cars had higher rear fender fins and vertical headlights. the clay model shown has the lines of the early cars. I wonder about the weight quoted, though–it has to be for a push rod engined car. The production 550s were heavier.
Love the 56 Le Mans coupe. Maybe I can get a replica some day.
