Art Appreciation: Ferrari 750 Monza

Ferrari 750 Monza Scaglietti
1955 Ferrari 750 Monza Chassis No.0492M

We don’t often think of Ferrari’s machines as barchettas; they tended to be the big boys. But before Ferrari was all muscle, all the time, this slippery little slice of perfection with a body by Scaglietti had her share of successes on the track.

RM Auctions is offering the remarkable example (chassis no.0492M) shown above as part of their upcoming Monterey Auction.

0492 Was John von Neumann’s first Monza, initially it had lizard skin upholstery; I remember being wowed by that upholstery at the San Fernando Drags (see my blog on an earlier month’s Chicane). it was driven first by Johnny, then Phil Hill and then Josie von Neumann before being sold to Harrison Evans, who won with it at Paramount Ranch. It was unique in having the little chrome strip on the front fender sides.

Sorry, I should have indicated the results for the S.F. drags were in the March 2011 Chicane.

Harrison Evans was my dad and I have most of the trophies he won driving this car. Doors anyone know she this car is currently at?
