Filmkooperation’s 2012 LeMans Classic

I particularly enjoy the atmosphere and anticipation in the first half of this video piece. You know that my blood gets pumping seeing these classic endurance racers on their home turf, so that really says something.

I love seeing the drivers rehearsing their leap into the car. You can almost taste their excitement that they’re actually going to do a LeMans start. They’re actually going to run across the road and fly into the pilot’s seat; reaching for the shifter and the ignition and the clutch, while somehow maneuvering into their safety belts with a HANS attached. I hope that the LeMans Classic always preserves the running start—even if only symbolically.

Laurent Nivalle’s Stunning LeMans Classic Photo Set

What I wouldn’t give for even half of Laurent Nivalle’s eye for capturing beautifully composed shots on the fly. Any one of these shots would be a worthy photo shoot that would please any photographer and art director. A team of award winning shooters, ADs, photography assistants, lighting technicians, stylists, and a catering team could not capture the beauty of the LeMans classic any better. That Nivalle caught these shots on the fly, at a second’s notice, and managed to craft these magnificent compositions is quite an accomplishment. Aston Onboard at LeMans Classic 2008

Back with more LeMans Classic footage, JH was good enough to write in about this marvelous Aston-Martin DB2/4 mixing it up with Masers, Allards and Jags at the Classic in ’08. Thankfully the driver had the video recording early for the running “LeMans Start”. Bring it back!

Even better, they let the video run into the night.. Admittedly not as much to see here, but that’s the point isn’t it: Racing when you can barely even see—when everything disappears and all that exists is the racing line and the upcoming curve.
