I don’t know the origin of this painting—at least I think it’s a painting—and my initial searches have turned up nothing. It’s jarring to see this era of motorsport viewed from an angle we’re more used to seeing today. Remember though that captures a moment before pit garages and VIP suites that would have offered this vantage point of the pit crew at work.
Does anyone know the artist?
I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’ll never have a 917. But man, I’d sure like one of these Shell Super oil cans—particularly in the condition seen in this marvelous shot in the pits at Spa by Rainer Schlegelmilch.
I know I romanticize the past more that it deserves, but is there anyone who would rather hang out in a contemporary racing pit that in this slice of heaven? Anyone know the venue?
