If you’re lucky enough to have a new slot car track under your tree this holiday season, why not throw this documentary about the early years of Scalextric on while your setting up Eau Rouge?
If on the other hand, you only have a lump of coal this year, this clip might motivate you to grab one of your own in the new year. We’re pretty tempted by the Team Mini Challenge Set.

It’s official. I need to make a lot more money.
A week ago, I thought my life was fairly complete, but then I saw this slot car table from Slot Mods. Now when I want to hide something, I usually pick some nondescript, boring piece of the background for my secret to blend in with. The folks at Slot Mods think slightly differently. When they set out to create a slot car track loosely based on La Sarthe, they decided the most inconspicuous place to stash it was in this Gulf-liveried Porsche 917 fiberglass shell. Amazing. This is the same group of mad geniuses bringing you Neiman-Marcus’s $300K slot car table. Now how am I supposed to decide between them?

Neiman Marcus’ Christmas catalog is famous for their over-the-top gift ideas. My favorite from last year was the custom falconry equipment. This year though, I’m actually tempted to put together a crowdfunding campaign for this custom slot car set by Slot Mods. Even better, David Hobbs will attend your opening party.
I can imagine no better evening than sitting around this remarkable slot car table with David Hobbs calling the action. Only $300K. At that price, we can’t afford not to get it.
Who’s in?

Thanks for the tip, Paul!
Trophies, special model motoring Fords, all-expenses paid trips to N.Y., TV appearances, a chance at a fully-equipped 1967 Ford Mustang: not bad for turning laps on the slot track.
A major electronic advance in road racing.
Now you can pass, switch lanes, and block your opponent! This is real switching and blocking that you operate by remote control. You can switch from the outside to the inside lane. Or vice versa. And if you get blocked, in either lane, you can switch to the free land and escape the traps. You’ll find yourself in dozens of real racing situations that call for skill and split-second timing. But, with the Eldon Selectronic Set, you’re in command. You control the speed. You control the switching. No matter which lane your car is in. No matter how many times you change lanes. That’s the secret of Eldon’s Selectronic Road Race Set. Your toy or hobby dealer will be happy to let you in on it.

Looking at this ad for a sweepstakes to win a Strombecker Slot Car set makes me wonder if the issue of Boy’s Life that, 40 years later, ended up being scanned for the Google Books archive might have been the winning entry.
It would be like finding Wonka’s Golden Ticket decades after Willy Wonka gave Violet Beauregarde and Augustus Gloop the grand tour.
Slot Cars are Serious Business
Dress codes will be enforced.
Knowing where to place your pressure sensitive labels is an important part of your slot racing team strategy. Now you won’t be in the dark when you’re assembling your GTO or DB5.
Remember slot racers, magnets are for wimps; and me.
